Hello, I am proposing to the love of my life  heart2 heart2 for over the past 4 years next week. I got her a 14K white gold ring with a what I was told "perfectly" cut diamond, in the light the luster and colors are fantastic and in a photo (sorry for the blurry camera) up close it is like 8 mirrors showing my PC screen. Then I bought a 14K white gold necklace pendant with a diamond as well to go along with it as a match, this is just for proposal.

She is a neo-hippie to speak and loves the peace sign, so I already bought a gorgeous 18K white gold ring with 12 small carat diamonds in the shape of a peace sign to give her during our honey moon (we are going to Hawaii, then from Hawaii flying to England, then Italy to see my home town, and have the funds to go anywhere else in europe she wants to go. after that we end the honeymoon with 2 weeks in the bahamas at a time-share I bought as part of the new life we will have. we own up to 2 months every year in a beautiful resort on Grand Bahama Island Smiley.

anyway, sorry for the blurry photos please just tell me if the jeweler ripped me off, I know its real gold, I can tell they are diamonds but can you tell the approximate size of the cuts, the worth by the luster? I don't want to say how much I paid until you guys and gals respond - I trust the tiffany and Co peace sign ring to not question that. Smiley

as a note the back side of the pendant looks like a perfect cone that leads to a sharp looking point.

Welcome, Proposingtomylove.  There are much more senior members better suited to answer questions about stones than I am, but I can give you the short bad news.

No one can tell the quality of a stone by a picture, especially a blurry one.  Sad  DBL will tell you that to be sure of your diamond, it should be accompanied by a GIA certificate.  I wish you had come here when you were looking.  Almost all DBL diamonds have GIA certs, and David is a dynamite designer and procurer of beautiful diamonds.

All wishes aside, she is one lucky lady.  I'm temped to ask if you have a much older twin.  Wink

Welcome, and congratulations on your impending engagement.

We can barely tell what shape the stones are, never mind size, colour, clarity or cut quality! And these are pretty damn difficult to estimate from excellent photos - if you look in the "contests" area on the forum you'll see a few examples of what I mean... If you have information about the stones' weight, colour and clarity, and who graded them, it would very much help us to express an opinion - but if you want a proper assessment, you should hire an indipendent appraiser and ask him!

In terms of "ripped off" - it can be a difficult question to answer, even knowing exactly what you are getting and what you are paying.

You mentioned getting a ring from a certain store famous for its blue boxes. My (pretty well educated) guess is you could get a ring with the same quality made elsewhere for half the price. Does it mean that it's a rip-off? Not necessarily. For some people, the assurance of quality and snob-value that come with a blue box are worth a 70 to 100% premium. For others - myself included - no.

Hi Proposing!
Welcome to the forum.

As a fellow musician, I really do wish you'd found us first.
As has been written, there's nothing we can tell from the photos you posted ( I'm sure you play music much better than you take pictures...heheh)

To be able to even begin to answer, we need to know a few things......What did you pay for the diamond and what's it's shape and size?

The fact you were told you got a "perfectly cut" diamond is one strike- it's kind of like calling a used car a "creampuff"- all sizzle and no steak.....

Hi Proposingtomylove! Welcome to the forum. I hope that you'll stick around a while and share the fun.  As far as your photos go, I can't add anything new to what's already been written. Sorry about that.

However, I am curious... what, after making your purchases, lead you to believe that you may have paid too much? It seems to me that there may be more to your story here...

And, WOW, I'm impressed. You haven't proposed, and yet, already, you've got the honeymoon all planned out. I hope she loves it all. Good luck!

Hey Proposingtomyove!

We are all interested in what has caused you to worry.  There has got to be a story behind it.  Is there any way to return one or both items for a full refund if you continue to be uncomfortable?  If you can't, there's another reason to worry.  Any reliable merchant will stand behind their product.  smackdownguys

If you are leery of giving out too much detail to a bunch of strangers, maybe you could call or email David and speak to him directly about your concerns.  We're all here at the DBL forum site for several reasons.

1.  we get the straight poop on every question concerning diamonds, gemstones, and jewels
2.  many have purchased more that one item from DBL, or hope to in the future.  Of those that have, all seem to be supremely satisfied.
3.  we all have an over-the-top interest in diamonds, DBL not withstanding, and this is a good place to share and learn.

You can access him at the Diamonds by Lauren phone number, or email him direct by clicking on his avatar to get to his profile.  I've never met him, personally, although many of the hero members have, and multiple times; but I can vouch for the veracity of his answers and the reasonableness of his assessments in price to stone and price to mounting.  I've never seen custom work that was more reasonably priced.  And he does ship with a money back guarantee.

This is not the time to be nervous of what you've purchased  scared , just how much she'll love it  love10 .

Everyone else is, of course, right about it being impossible to tell much of anything from pics.  What's important is that you've found a jeweler you trust (it makes me sad that you even think that you might have been cheated!), and of course, MOST importantly, that your bride-to-be LOVES her ring!

If you want to try to take better pictures, though, what I'd suggest is that you get farther away.  All lenses have a minimum focal distance; closer than that, they just cannot focus.  So move back, then crop the (hopefully in-focus) picture until the diamond is front and center!

Congrats on your impending proposal!  Your honeymoon sounds like quite a whirlwind!

I'm sorry we can't tell much from the pictures, but I can see it's a pear with baguettes and that's one of my favorite combos.
