It's official!  The dress is decided.  Mom and I swung by the local Alfred Angelo boutique on Monday.  She approves the high-low lace dress and Long sleeve bolero jacket.  When I get back to my laptop, I'll add the photos again.  For now I'm on my phone, so brevity is penultimate. Other good news is that my big sis will be my MOH.  The lady who bathes Dad 3 days a week has offered to watch Dad 24/7 for a long weekend so Mom can be at the wedding.  I'll be ordering my gown locally in CA when I get home.  Earliest possible date will be late May or early June.  Life is good.  Smiley

The gown:

and even tho it will be summer, and in California, I'm going with long sleeves.  No 'old lady' arms showing for me!
The jacket:

All in ivory.  I checked the satin, Lynn, and the shop you recommended did not carry as heavy a weight as the orginals are made, so I'm forsaking color for safety.

I'm letting my sister choose here own MOH gown - within my colors, of course!  I still have to see if Nicki can make it out here.  I'm hoping my step daughters from both of my families will be my bridesmaids.

Both are gorgeous. But that second one is such a classic! I love it. Makes me want to get married all over again.

Thanks Miz M and Meb Wistress.  I can only hope it turns out as well as the sample looked.  Shame I couldn't see the fabrics used in that St. Pucchi, but that one listed at over 3K - and a little out of my budget.

Actually, GG, I'm leaning to blue hydrangeas with green roses for accents, similar colors for the entire shindig.  And you bet there will be pictures.  It will be a small affair - less than 50, maybe even less than 30 people.  Mainly just family.

Sounds good - we had I think 60 people at our wedding and it was great. Enough to make it a heck of a party, but not so many people that we didn't have time to talk with everyone.

If you haven't already chosen a venue, may I suggest that you pick one with a person limit round about your own upper limit? When we actually got to sending invitations, we'd have got carried away in spite of our good intentions if it wasn't for the fact we could only fit 60 people in our reception venue.

Well, Miz M, I have to check on the chapel, but first I have to get a due date on the dress.  DH wants sooner rather than later, so maybe Memorial Day - in which case the green roses would be replaced by red ones.  We are looking at Trump's as the reception site, so cost rather than size of venue will be the delimiter, I'm afraid.

I've found the shoes - not quite as casual as the promo photo; but I'm not a cute little 20-something, either.

I'm still waiting on my sis to see what she wants  to wear.  I've also decided to coordinate the other bridesmaids by length, color and fabric, but not style.  It's all by the same design house to make things easy. Colors are Riviera sky and Lettuce.  There are number of dresses where a secondary color(lettuce) can be chosen, but not that I can show from their website.  Examples below in chiffon and satin:

My sis (MOH) is 59, and my other two bridesmaids are both stepdaughters by different Dads.  They are 30 and 15, so we have quite an age range.

Would it be goshe to give the shoes and handbags that match the dresses as brides' gifts to her girls?  Two out of 3 are on the east coast USA.  It's quite an expense for them to even attend, let alone participate in a wedding party on our west coast.  The cost of those items would easily be a night's stay in a decent hotel.

The youngest is from our new family and will be moving back in with us after the school year ends,  so I'd cover all those expenses, anyway.  We plan on finding her dress over Christmas break, while she is visiting here.

For whatever it's worth, I love the cut and colors of the chiffon dresses.  I think they match your dress best.

I do too, Mikla.  I could see the yougsters both in that chiffon with fancy beaded thong type sandals.  The satin is more my sister's style, especially since she could get a 3/4 sleeve jacket that would match mine (they don't make the long sleeve version any more).

I'll just have to see what they all want to do.  Evil

I hope you're not disappointed about the long-sleeved jacket not being available any more.  It will be warm when you get married, so the three-quarters length sleeves should do great!  Great colors for an end of spring/summer wedding, too.

Could you pick the color and let them pick their dress style?

I have to admit, Mikla, I was pretty irritated when I found the long-sleeve jacket had not only been discontinued, but couldn't be found anywhere in the states.  What's really painful is that I tried on just such a jacket a month before when I took the girls to look at the dress.  But I can live with 3/4 sleeves.  That's no real hardship.

That's what's going on, GG.  They will all be gowned in Riviera Sky; and the youngsters will both be short or high-low, like my own.  If my sis wants a long, then she gets that - but she's the MOH, so a more extreme difference is ok for her.  But each will choose their own favorite dress.  I might prefer the two youngsters to coordinate in satin or in chiffon, but I'm waiting to see if there are first or second picks that will work with one another's choices.  I'm not terribly thrilled with the chiffon Riviera Sky, to be honest.

If there is a secondary or accent color, which some dresses do have, they will use Lettuce.  I just pulled 2 sets of dresses to show the differences in the colors between chiffon and satin.

Both the youngsters like a dyeable heeled and beaded thong sandal, and that's all good; but no one's final vote is in yet. Evil

Just one note on the colours: I suspect the photos are photoshopped to change the dress colour (look at the fall of the pleats and the shadows: totally identical in the sky blue or lettuce images). There's nothing wrong with that, but the colour chosen may not match the real one, so ask to see a sample!!!

Sage advice, OMC, and I did so when I ordered my dress.  I wasn't at all sure about the combination until I saw the fabrics in person.  When my DSS arrives on the 21st, we'll head over to the shop and get her dress rolling.  When they come in, I'll take scraps from the fittings and ship them back with the shoes to be dyed.

Thanks, GG!  I  was really concerned with how to make it affordable for my girls to stand up with me. 8   It was a great relief to see wedding parties with no two dresses or even shoes alike.  I've got one coming from Virginia, one from Florida, and one from Colorado.  No way to even match hemlines.  ...and then a style that works for teen, 30-something, and 50-something?!?  freakout EEEK!

on another note.  Wayfarer's Chapel is out.  angry5 They are just too pricey and I'm not giving up my piper for even Frank Lloyd Wright skylights!  I might have to build my own CD of chamber music to play before the ceremony; but I'm a Scott, b'god, and even we borderers deserve to be piped into our own wedding.

My cousin had a piper at her wedding in NYC last month. I saw the video, it was amazing. He played Highland Cathedral while she walked up the aisle. As the bridal party reached the altar, the organist joined in. It was one of those moments that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up (in a good way).

Just a thought - if you find a community of ex-patriot Scots, you can pretty much guarantee there will be one who can play the pipes and might do it for fun and a dram, rather than a fee. (Check to see if s/he's any good first...)

Remember, if you have a piper, you need to give him a dram of malt whisky in a quaich when he's done. Wink

You can borrow the quaich from me Grin - nice Art Deco, hallmarks for Edinburgh, 1929. I can't remember the silversmith at the moment.
