Hi Everyone!
I ran into my old friend James Bond ( friend of Sam Spade) the other day and got to talking.
A though popped into my head.
"Hey 007- can you cut an Old Mine cut- or Old Mine Cushion?"

"SURE! I do it all the time!"
hmmmm

"Wow, I'd love to do that if I knew where to get some rough...."

"Come by the factory tomorrow, and I'll show you some" he said.

YES!!!

Well, it's taken a few days more than we expected- now he's saying Friday or Monday.
Remember, 007 gets the job done- but sometimes not when you expect....


Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted- and be sure to take a lot of pics of the stone before during and of course after cutting......

I'm scared to look! Of all things under the sun, I love an old mine cut diamond best. Even my step cut obsession fades a little when I see an OMC. Until fairly recently, I didn't think it was possible to buy one, so I was fairly relaxed about them LOL. Now? Oh my.

I have a vague childhood memory of my grandmother telling me about 'candle cut' diamonds, cut to sparkle in candlelight, that she saw when she was a child herself. I wanted one ever since. Sigh. I have a bad feeling about this, a sort of emptying of bank account feeling... Evil

remember the saying "Rome wasn't built in a day?"
That is at the forefront in my mind today...
When I got to the cutting factory 007, and M ( a guy that 007 works with) pulled out a parcel of polished diamonds.
"Oh, you wanted to see rough? they asked when they saw the look on my face....


ARGHHHHH!~

But the trip was not a total loss as 007 reached into a used almond tin ( you can't make this stuff up) and pulled out the stone we WILL start with!!!


The stone is currently 2.93carats.
As you can see, the diamond is brown...and 007 says we may have a surprise once he's done cutting- the color might be verrrrry interesting!


The stone will need to be sawed before polishing.

These guys really know their stuff....
They measured the rough .....in about 3 seconds they told me: It will finish to 1.10carats if you go for a round- maybe 1.20cts if we go old mine....amazing!

Monday we'll begin by sawing the diamond......
