OK, so, when David describes a diamond as "gorgeous" and it happens to be in one of my favorite color grades – K – and in my most desired two-plus carat size – 2.04cts – and it is VERY clean – VS2 – I sit up and take notice.

Say helloooooooooooooo to Gorgeous Miss K, 2.04ct VS2 K-color pear R3490!  Kiss

David, is there a hand shot of Gorgeous Miss K?

Better still, are there more Gorgeous Miss Ks out there in the 3ct range? A cushion or radiant, perhaps?  Evil

I'm just asking...  Roll Eyes

hmmm. pretty stone but it has a bow tie. I still don't understand the whole bow tie thing. is it because they have more facets in certain areas? I know we discussed this in a different thread, but I can't remember what causes the bow tie effect.

Bow ties have to do with the pavilion facets not being properly angled, and most fancy shapes have a bow tie to some degree. The question: is the bow tie so obvious or dark that it is actually distracting? We are so often taught that a bow tie of ANY kind is BAD, however, sometimes, the contrast and interest of a bow tie may actually add beauty, character and charm to a stone. For me, it is a matter of degrees. And, I've seen a couple of "exceptionally cut" pears with NO visible bow ties, that, to me, seemed quite BLAH. I missed the character.

Great examples of "successful bow ties" for me are two of my all-time DBL favs: SOLD cushions R1379 and R1378. OMG, I never realized until now that they are one stock number apart! David, did these two stones come from the same source? If so, please, GO BACK FOR MORE!!!!!  Evil

I would love to own a pear but I find most bow ties very distracting.  What characteristics does a pear have when there is little to no bow tie present?

Mikla for some odd reason I was looking at the pears earlier today on DBL and I saw this one that isn't sold

I think this is an awesome pear that doesn't have a bow tie.  I have no idea what makes it not have a bow tie but I know I like it a lot!  Doesn't answer your question really I know but it's cool to look at.

That K is a very pretty stone!  Not a huge pear lover here and I think it is wonderful.

To contrast, here's what I would describe as a faint bow tie, R1422.

Great question Mikla!!
There's really no set of measurements or rules to follow- the bow tie has to do with how certain facets, and other characteristics respond to each other.

R2452, for example, has as little ( or no) bow tie as is possible.
Sometimes a bow tie can look very big in photos, but not in person.
I'd say the "traditional pear shape" will have somewhat of a bowtie- but in the best cases it actually adds to the sparkle by adding some contrast.

T- I'll get that hand shot for you soon......

D,
I MIGHT be looking to see some plus-9mm-by-plus-7.5mm-ish OR plus-8mm-by-plus-8mm-ish sized K and/or golden colored stones with exceptional crystal...

Just thought I'd mention it.  angel

Thank you, T!  I've looked at that pear before . . . it's SO nice.  I'm looking for a pear about 1.50 - 2.00 carats to set something like the attached photo (trilliants or bowed bullet side stones).  The thing is, I'd like a white center with colored side stones.  I'm not asking for much, right?!   Grin

I think there is no such thing as asking too much.  Okay there might be something that would be asking too much, but definitely not what you said.  I think that would be very lovely myself!

I"m sorry, OMC.  I think any one of those pears would be over the top when set in a ring.  Too big, even for me, not to mention a little sticky around the setting.
