I'm going to try this one of these days.  I live with four other girls though, so making the house smell like vinegar might not be a popular move.  angel

How sweet of you Annie to be so respectful.  If I had a roomate, you are the kind of roomate I would want to have!!

I am so glad to see those of you who tried it are having wonderful results!!!I really didn't think the results of my own jewelry cleaning  were  a "figment" of my imagination!   tongue3

This is a winner.  Tried it with brown (apple cider) vinegar and everything looks really nice.  I didn't do any brushing so I would be able to see what the vinegar did by itself.  I did swirl the cup around though so there was a little mechanical action.

This is great!!! And so cheap!  (Why am I worried about the cost of cleaning solution when I will drop $5000 on a sparkly without any problems at all?)

I was at my mom's house last night and since she had some vinegar, I tried the warm vinegar soak on my rings and my mom's rings.  I didn't really notice a difference on my rings, but my mom's?  OMG!  Hers look brand new.  She's never careful about her jewelry so she's always got some soap residue or some other ick on her rings. I'm always cleaning her jewelry.  Wasn't so keen on the smell, but the results are worth it!!  Thanks for the tip, Ronda!

Ronda, I'm soaking my rings in warm vinegar right now. I made my vinegar pretty hot but I don't think it will hurt them. And I have my baby toothbrush ready to brush them in a few minutes about 1/2 way through thier soak.

I don't expect a huge difference as I keep my rings really clean all the time. But maybe this will give them that extra touch of sparkle. lol

Amy, Salt and Vinegar chips are DA BOMB! Me and my daughter both looooove them!! They do make my tongue a bit "sore" if I eat a whole bunch at once, but mmmm... good!

My other absolute favorite is the DILL flavor! Lays put it out as one of thier "limited edition" flavors and I wish I had bought a case load as I can't find them anymore. Sad

You gals are making me hungry!  I love those chips too!  I just can't afford to eat any of them....I feel sooo "winter" fat right now!    UGGH!~Ronda

I've never tried salt and vinegar as the thought of that combo sounded nasty, but I hear it's good.. I have to buy WV this weekend, so I'll give those chips a try.

Me and Rhonda are not only diamond sisters, we're chip sisters! We both would pass on a candy bar for chips Smiley I have, since HS (*cough11yearsago*) have always had a diet coke a day (or...3) and some chips.  It's my vice.

I'm a huge cool ranch dorito girl.  I promise I won't breath on you girls:)

Ooooo Michi gave me an idea.  I'm visiting my family for the weekend, so I think I'll try the vinegar out on my mom's engagement ring.

I'm really lucky that I don't care for chips that much - I do have quite the sweet tooth though.

Since I work for a division of PepsiCo, I feel COMPELLED to tell you that Walkers (in Europe), Aunt Vickies (U.S.) and FritoLay (U.S.) all make DELICIOUS salt and vinegar potato chips!

And Snooper, I will let that comment about Diet Coke go since you eat Cool Ranch Doritos...if you promise to try a Diet Pepsi for me...

The more Pepsi-FritoLay-Quaker Oats-Gatorade and Tropicana you girls eat/drink, the more sparklies I can buy!!  DAVID...that goes for you too!

As for the cleaning suggestions...I have for years used this formula:

2 parts water in a small pyrex or glass container.  Heat up in microwave until bubbling (about 40 seconds), then add your jewelry (diamonds, sapphires and gold only).  Then add 1 part ammonia.  Once the water/ammonia mixture cools, take out your jewels, rinse in warm water and brush with a soft toothbrush.

I generally use 2 tablespoons water to 1 tablespoon ammonia.  Ammonia is cheap also...just don't inhale it!  No odor either.

I will try the WV option.  See if the results are as good!

How cool~we are saving money on cleaning supplies so that we can save up for more diamonds!

I tried the warm white vinegar thing, and it did make my rings sparkle!  DH complained some, but it just made me crave a salad with balsamic vinaigrette  icon_porc

As to salt and vinegar chips-- I don't eat chips anymore (I lost 25 lbs.  a year or so ago, and in my determination to keep it off, I've given up chips entirely.)  However, my favorite chips were Zapp's salt and vinegar.  Really tangy.  It's a Louisiana brand, and although it's commonly available here in Texas, I doubt it's available all over the US.

Robin! KUDOS on loosing 25 pounds and keeping them off!!!! WOW!!! I know if I took out chips I'd loose 5 pounds easily... I DO however, count them out:) I only eat 13 chips:)

CH, hmmm Diet PEPSI eh??? Well... I DO like regular Pepsi over reg Coke... I honestly go for the Coke products as they're cheaper here... HOWEVER, if I drink more Pepsi=more $ for you =less money in my diamond fund! LOL I'll look into it though:)

Where do you live Snooper?  Usually the two are priced pretty competitively.  Anyway, I have no doubt that even if cola prices doubled tomorrow...you would find a way!   Wink

Right near DC (No. VA)  It was $6.50 for 2 12 pack of Pepsi, coke=$5 for 2 12 packs...

Ok, sureeeee it's $1.50 but STILL!! Smiley We go through a 12 pack every two days (that's being generous)

Ok girls.. I do NOT know much about food---me bake? don't get me started on my usual food dishes...

But I got distilled WV... That the right stuff?Huh? I didn't see "WV".  I won't try this until I know for sure.  Also I wanted to buy a brand, but had to get the store (Wegmans) brand.. Help?

I did get Lay's Kettle Cooked Salt and Vinegar chips:)

Samantha, I think some people just love tart flavors and some don't.   (I've never tried this flavor, but I doubt that's it.)   I love vinegary, pickly, tart things-- Sweet Tarts, Sour Patch Kids, and these chips.  My DH does NOT.  It's either a difference in physical perception of flavor or just personal preference, I suppose.

Salt and vinegar chips have been a staple in the UK since before I was born and so I grew up with them.  When I was pregnant I was desperate for some (but living in the US) and I managed to find some speciality brand.  I took them into the jewellers and kept nipping into the back office to grab one.  Well, the other girls were notorious for pinching food and it wasn't too long before one of them came bolting from the back room holding her throat and looking like she'd been poisoned!  No-one touched my chips after that!

If you guys can find them, pickled onion flavor are pretty awesome too.  My mouth is watering!

Someone should've started a chip thread in Chit Chat huh?

Vinegar works a treat! I just tried it and it's better than the US as well as safer, I think. My grandmother used gin to clean her ring. That works too! I have been known to put it in the US, for a bit of extra sparkle. Unlike my grandmother, I pour it away when I'm done cleaning with it! laugh
