Thanks omc!!!

Now, about R3461...
Nice stone at an amazing price.
There are a few carbon spots inside- I see them in the photos, but not in person.

Really nice cut- deceptive color to be sure.
When stones are fluorescent, they take on chameleon-like aspects in person- photos only make this more apparent.
Still, the color here is nice and "honey -like"

Ah- R3460 you say... thanks crh!!

Nice stone- good size for the weight- the brownish aspect is visible though. If someone wanted pure yellow, I would not go this way.
But if they like brownish, and wanted really nice looking- sparkle, size, the value is great on R3460

She had a late night with the gals last night, but we took a look this morning.  While R3456 is a very nice stone, it's not the stone for us.  The video that you linked to me for R3456 really illustrates how well that cloud blends in, but she was still against it in the end.  I'm proud of my lovely blonde for being honest about what she does and does not want--sometimes she is a little too nice and too compromising.

On R3460, you were right!  I asked her what she though and while she loves the clarity, color, and carat weight of that stone; she is definitely willing to wait and review all the choices of FLY/FY/FIY colored stones first.  R3460 is an amazing stone and I doubt very much that it will stay your inventory very long at that price.

R3461 pretty much fits this same bill as 3460.  I think it would be out of my price range to begin with, but she is willing to sacrifice that great size and wait for a purer yellow color.

David, I owe you an email response or two when I get back tonight from work.  Thank you again for all your hard work on helping us find a diamond.  I can't believe how much time and effort you've already put into finding our stone--it has been completely unexpected.  My lovely blonde and I are set on doing business with DBL after having so many experiences with maul stores (good and bad, but generally underwhelming) and searching the faceless void of the internet otherwise.  The amount of care and attention so far in the process gives me great confidence in buying the ring from DBL.  (Your wife must be very understanding of your job, especially right now!)

Thank you, thank you!

OMC:  I just wanted to comment and thank you for the advice.  I've read your post several times now and I can certainly see the wisdom.  In fact, I've probably read a couple hundred of your posts in my lurkdom and I know that you are very sage.  Your advice is greatly appreciated.

My lovely blonde and I actually had the opportunity to see a fancy brown-yellow next to a fancy yellow live, locally.  She definitely gets the difference between the colors (honey versus yellow).  David was also kind enough to send us some side-by-side comparison shots of a stone that we were looking at to give us an even better idea of color.  While both stones were beautiful, she preferred the smaller and more yellow of the two.  I've also explained that none of her friends are likely to ever have a yellow stone to see side-by-side with hers, until she starts showing it off and all of her friends and all of my friends start shopping here!  That means that most people would never even be able to catch on that it wasn't a pure yellow.  The blonde wants a blonde though!  She is willing to compromise size down for color and I'm proud of her for making her wants known.

This is high praise (too high, in fact), crh. Happy to be of service!

If I may add another word of advice: unless you are set at this point against having side stones, also consider the effect of contrast coming from any sides, both in shape and colour.

I think that is great that she knows what she wants in a color.  I was that way too with mine.  I knew I wanted something in a certain range and oddly the size didn't matter so much.  I believe I just told David my color & shape requirements (as well as discussing it needed to be eye clean) but not even the size.  Just the budget since that was *very* firm.

Did you see R3454?  I just *love* this stone!

Squiggly:  David actually sent me photos of that stone last evening.  It looks to fit the bill almost perfectly.  I've still got to talk about it in detail with my lovely blonde, but that particular stone is probably the winner.  It fits all of our requirements--cut, color, clarity, and carat.  As an added bonus, the dimensions are very favorable to the size as well.  I know we'll be speaking about this stone at length this evening and perhaps bugging David for a video as well.

I am surprised how quickly this particular stone showed up for us--it is amazing the resources that David has!

You a few months ago I was totally shocked with how quickly David had something for me as well.  I have a thread in the Diamond Myth & Jeweler Experience section that tells what it was like dealing with three other jewelers.  I was totally floored with the service I got here.

I truly am a fan for life and I have to agree, David has to have some great resources and a wonderful eye!

David!  The two stones that seem to be on top of her choices after looking through pretty much every single fancy colored stone on the site are:  *drum roll*

R3454 (1.01ct FY Radiant)

and...

R3469 (.74ct FIY Radiant)

These two are amazing stones and great prices to boot.  She likes the color of the R3469 better. (I honestly can't tell that much difference between the two myself, but she is both a woman and a graphic artist with a degree in fine arts.  That makes her roughly twenty times better at judging color from my estimates.  Also the color on R3454 is amazing!).  She also really likes the square proportions; but she doesn't hate the rectangular cut either...

We're set on using the setting from R3347.  Thoughts and/or comments from anyone?  She is trying to decide, but I honestly feel that either one would make for an outstanding ring.  I've told her that we have all the time in the world to decide (...or until they get sold!).

Has she tried on similar shapes/sizes to see which she would like the look of on her finger?  For the longest time I thought I wanted a squarish shape on my hand, but I went out and tried things on and found out I was wrong.  I mean I like square the way they look, but on my finger the rectangular looks better.

Granted I was trying on emeralds and princess shpaes, but it helped me a lot to do so.

Now as for the two stones... well honestly both are wonderful!!  That FIY is just amazing!!!  And the FY is so gorgeous as well.  Really I don't know other than picking either shape or color how you could decide.

Tell her I think she has awesome taste! Wink

I'd go for R3469. Although it's slightly smaller, I prefer square cuts, and the colour is definitely more - well, how can I put it? - intense! Also, I think with the setting you want to use a square stone would look better, whether you set it on the side or on the diagonal.

I missed the part about being set on the setting.  In that case no question I'd go with the FIY.

Great choices crh.

Hmmm......I wonder how R3469 would look set on the diagonal with that setting?

Grin that's what I'm angling for as well...

clwgli, any chance of a PhotoShop impression? I can build a sketch, but not a good simulation of the setting at all.

You should see my terrible 2D mock-ups of size and shape in illustrator.  I know just a little bit more than how to install the programs, so they're pretty embarrassing in comparison to people who actually know how to use it.

Just back from church.  I can do this after I run an errand though. I think it would look fabulous kite set!

Okay I had to wait to do the errand so I did this quickly.  I hope it would give a good idea of this stone set like that.

So as I was looking at the picture I was thinking that the stone looked very large in that setting.  Sure enough the original was a stone that was 7.5mm so I scaled it down.  I didn't do actual measurements (sorry) or anything, but I took a guess as to what it would look like if the band were close to the right ratio to the width of the stone.

I cannot guarantee accuracy since I didn't do all the math (which I stink at honestly) but this probably is closer to what it would look like set.

I hope that all made sense... and again it might be off, but at least I don't think the stone looks a lot too big.

Would it make more sense if the prongs are on the corners?

Squiggly:  You only got a one word reply out of her on that:  "Wow!"

Thank you so much for mocking that up.  She thinks she might prefer it set traditionally instead of kite-set though.  She also agrees 100% that she'd want the prongs on the corners.

Well geez y'all make more work for me  Grin

And yeah I thought of it after the fact too but that was work I was too lazy to do at the time.  Requires more copying and pasting of sorts.  But since it is raining and I can't get ice cream I have nothing better to do than do that.

I have to say something first.  One I was interrupted quite a lot while doing this so I apologize that this isn't my best work.

And also I have been testing GIMP instead of Photoshop just to see what I think of it.  The end result is that I don't like GIMP as it does distort the picture more than Photoshop does.  In the end for anyone who wants to know you do get what you pay for (GIMP is free).  I think resizing it does fine, but rotations with resizing and all I did... well I am just not happy with the result.

However, this would be standard set, with similar proportions if you were to have the band made in a similar width and all.  I guessed the band to be about 2mm wide and the stone is about 5mm wide.

Again I am not happy with my result, but I wanted to share it anyway to give a (what I am guessing) a real life perspective.  The sparkle and "WOW" factor of this stone is gone due to distortion Sad

Anyway here it is
