Recently, I had been to one Jewelry Mall - I have selected loose diamond for my engagement ring.

here are the specification:

Shape: Pear
Carat: 0.20
Cut: Fair
Color:    K
Clarity: VS2
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good

Does it worth to pay $170.44 for this stone??  Undecided Need Advice

Candy, I'm sorry, but I have to answer your question with more questions...

Who graded the stone? Why would you trust their judgement in that? Is the diamond well cut and sparkly without significant dark areas?

The price may be fair if the stone is as described; if - as it is possible if you are using an unreliable opinion on the stone's clarity and colour - it may be rather overpriced.

To add to OMC's comments, can I ask if you find the stone attractive? Does it sparkle, is it lively?

i could live with a k color, but the 'fair' cut would concern me. mrs. mithchell is right, is it lively? a diamond without life would be a waste of money IMHO.

Hi guys!

Candy- Jen's questions are spot on.
If you love the stone, it's probably fine...
Having said that, let's look at specifics:
One thing that a lot of people forget is that diamonds have a whilesale value that is not exactly "fixed"- but trends are very pervasive.

For example- the stone you are looking at is prices at $850 per carat .
It's possible the stone is actually K VS2, but highly unlikely- especially considering you're looking at it in a mall, which generally have high mark ups.
I don;t believe there's a GIA report, so the grade was issued by the seller.
"K" represents a long slippery slope.
Basically, a lot of sellers call any non graded stone darker than J a K.
It might be an M, who knows.

More likely a legitimately graded K/VS2 pear would sell for about $250

I just noticed that someone called the cut "Fair"- BIG red flag there...
Is there a money back guarantee?
