A rhetorical question as so many of the "Asscher Cuts" you see are classified as "Square Emerald Cut" by GIA.
A branded Royal Asscher is generally classified  by GIA as "Octagonal Step Cut"

But that's all about terminology, as opposed to physical reality.

When I see a stone like this, I think "Asscher"- however this particular stone is not even a square.
It's about as close to square as you can get and NOT be a square though.

In some ways, this type of a shape works even better in many three stone designs compared to a "real" square.

A lovely stone by any means.

Very, very nice! This has a lot of personality. The steps are lovely and crisp looking and the shape is really attractive. I like this one a lot, but I have a soft spot for step cuts.

Me too Jen, hopefully I will have that beautiful Asscher Pendent at the end of March. Saving my pennies.

I'm all excited for you!

The more I look at this stone, the harder I find it to decide if it feels asscher or emerald. It has some of both, all the best bits of each.

I love asschers but I am totally undecided on even if I like emeralds or not.  To me that is a really nice emerald that I would consider.  But since I see that line at the culet I would say it is an emerald cut.

I really do love it though!  To me that would be the only type of emerald I would ever consider!!

LOL!

I keep coming back to look at this stone and the more I see it the better I like it. I love the short little culet, because that's one of the things I love about an emerald cut and I love the almost squareness of it, like an asscher.

This is an intriguing little stone with so much personality. Not one you could pass up for now and find another the same in a while, if you see what I mean. I love it and I'm drawn to it and I want to adopt it.

I am weak at the knees. But then I look at my em cut. And I still love it. I could decorate my entire being in emerald cuts of all colors.
