HI Sparkly! how very exciting....... I don't know how I missed this thread, but eveyone gave you  great advice. I don't think I have to much to offer extra, but a few things I can think of include:
Make a list and check it twice, ok, three and four times right before you leave. start with the most important things, like passport, tickets, ATM cards, wallet, cash...... all they way down to chewing gum.
start packing a few days in advance, and cross things off the list (even though you will check and check again right before you leave.
if at all possible, wear a fanny pack. I swear by them. you don't have to carry them with your hands, but  your most valuable stuff is with you at all times. however, when going through the airport, you should keep your passport handy by using the fanny pack, or wearing a passport case around your neck for easy access. after you reach your destination and get through customs, you can put it in your money belt. also, they are comfortable to wear and you can actually travel the whole flight without taking it off. NEVER LEAVE IT UNDER YOUR SEAT OR IN AN OVERHEAD BIN! try to remember also, that when in a crowd  to keep one hand on it.
divide your credit and atm cards into your money belt and fanny pack. never have them all in the same bag at the same time. just in case.
when packing your carry own, keep your adaptors in it and any thing else important like medications. oh, and don't forget to keep your meds in there prescription bottles.

bring an extra battery for your camera and an extra memory card if possible.

Thanks for the advice Saqsay!!  I was going to put my adapters into my suitcase instead of my carry on because of their weight.  A fanny pack is a good idea.
