Still nothing. We checked in the water traps, finding nothing except water (and a few bits of scum, but definitely no diamonds).

Still considering whether to purchase another pair of yellow diamond earrings, and turning the survivor into a pendant, or whether to have David copy the singleton.

I'll discuss with David when I'm next in NYC (probably in a month or so).

Sorry that you haven't found the missing earring, OMC. Sad

Great tip GL.  I've been doing that for years; the trick is to have a pipe wrench that fits or adjustable pliers handy.  I was dropping so many things down the drain that I would wait until the DH went to sleep to take the drain apart so I could avoid his nasty tirade.  Boy, was he surprised when he caught me taking the trap off in the middle of the afternoon.  Retrieved bucket and pliars, disasembled, found earring, reassembled, and cleaned up mess in 15 minutes flat.

DH: "How many times have you done that?"
Me: "More than you'll ever know!  I usually wait until you're asleep"  smarty
DH:  freakout"What else do you do while I'm sleeping?"freakout

I'm so sorry to hear about the lost earring.  Have you removed the cushions from your couch and upholstered chairs and put your hand deep along the back and sides?  I usually find crumbs and my husband's change there..... Good luck!

Check by the bed posts and that area under the bed, next to the wall.  I have found earrings crammed against the baseboards before.  Or in the spot between the bed frame and mattress.

I get wild when I misplace jewelry, mostly at myself for being so careless.  It seems to happen every time I don't put something away.   A yellow earring would have sent me over the edge.

When I saw this thread at the top of the page, I was hoping it was a good news story!

So sorry you haven't found it yet, but there's some good ideas for places to try. When our sofa was re-upholstered, it came back with £5.68 in loose change, a biro, three hairbands and an earring, so you never know!

Ballpoint pen. Invented by Laszlo Biro, Hungarian aristocrat, and the name is patented.

unless i missed something, i am assuming it hasn't turned up yet. i think it will eventually. or as george carlin would have said.... when you die and go to heaven, you get back everything you ever lost.
1. 35 balloons.
2. 1675 ball point pens
3. 112 single socks (none of which match)
4. 5 wallets (minus cash of course)

or in my mom's case, she lost a .50 ct diamond solitaire earring which was found 10 yrs later when she replaced the carpet in the master bedroom. now how does an earring get under there???

Nothing whatsoever; I bet that it will turn up when we move (since we have no fitted carpets). In the meantime, I've been busy concocting alternatives. So far, I've found 3 rings, a pair of clips, a single clip, a brooch, 2 pairs of earrings and a bracelet/watch. Nothing to replace the durned earring, though.

Well - the time of truth has come.

We are moving next week.

Don't hold your breath, but there is a small, vanishingly small chance that something will be found.

Incidentally - most of the alternatives (and a few other things) have been bought in the meantime, but still no earring Grin

The earring is wedged into a window sill or the wooden frame.

I hope you find it as you pack up.  I had a special ring of mine lost for about 3 years.  I even moved the dresser it sat on and looked through the drawers.  As I moved out I finally found it right in the middle of the floor.  no idea how that happened.

Now if I could only find the little marquise diamond that just was lost.  I was looking through stones getting an idea and I got bumped by my son and..... gone....

tried bringing in a bright LED flashlight to help and still no luck.  I keep hoping my son will find it since he's found some gems that popped out of settings for me.  Been a few weeks though...

Are you moving within the city, or elsewhere?  I'd love to hear your plans.  In the meanwhile, good luck finding the earring!

Sparkly, do you have some kind of feeling about this?

It would be fantastic if it was found, and kind of cool if it was found where you said it would be!

Every time this thread pops up again, I click on it hoping to see that it's turned up.  Cry

clgwli, I'm sorry to hear about your marquise. That sucks. Hope it turns up too.

Sparkly, Jen - unfortunately all windows in Italy are of the casement type, and they open towards the inside of the house, so there is no place where something could "rest" and not be seen.

Mikla - we are changing country! Going to Switzerland. Although in terms of distance it's a shade under 200 miles, so not very far at all, the bureaucracy involved is rather incredible.

I loved visiting Switzerland so I hope you enjoy living there as much as I did visiting!

I really have my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks Jen.  I feel dumb for looking while he was awake, but hindsight and all.  I am inspired to look again right now though.

Jen

I read the entry by OMC saying they were moving, and this picture of an opened 24 to 30 inch window trimmed in white popped into my head.  The bottom of the window was about waist high.  My vantage point was about six feet away and to the left.  I knew it was an opening, but I couldn't see anything but a medium gray space about 24 inches high.  The walls were not defined and there wasn't anything opening into the area.  This was a strongly felt image; the earring was wedged into a corner.  So, I figured that the earring was wedged into the sill or the trim.

OMC, do you have any framed mirrors?  What about stationary windows, the lights around doors, or french doors?  Are there any recessed areas in the walls?

Who knows?  Maybe I have something stuck in a corner. dontknow
