Just checked the box. Nope.

Kitchen sink has fixed grille on - tried with other earring, doesn't go through (one less trap to check).

Most drawers and boxes have been checked - certainly all those she remembers having looked into. Kids' rooms have been almost taken apart. I recall seeing both earrings on the chest of drawers in front of our bed the evening before (and thinking: best put them away, or they'll get lost; ha ha)

Dang. Well, it was worth a try. On a side note, I'm glad to hear that the other earring turned out not to fit through the sink trap! laugh

Ok, one more suggestion that just came to me - check the soles of shoes. If someone stepped on it with shoes on, it could have stuck into the tread on the soles.

Yes, but since we have all tiles and wooden floors, one would very soon notice the - erm - passenger? Anyway - checked shoes too. Nothing. I'm starting to think it was not an earring but an evil fox spirit that took on the semblance of an earring.

It's going to show up, out of nowhere, wherever you least expect it.  You'll unfold some laundry and ta da!, there it will be.

I wonder, is it the same one that got away last time?

You do realise that one day you'll lose hope and wrap up the other one in a fed-ex box to go back to David. He'll transform it into a gorgeous pendant, then mail it back to you. After you and DW have opened the box, photographed the pendant, played with it, admired it and fallen in love with it, admitting that it looks so much more beautiful now, then and only then will you find the missing earring.

You know it's true.

Did you pick up any and all area rugs?  I'm forever finding cat toys and the DS's pencils and pens under rug edges.  And how about the thin vaccum extension - have you used that to vaccum all around and underneath heavy pieces of furniture that are hard to move like the chest where you last saw the pair, claw-footed tubs, the stove and refridgerator?  I once had a ring that went missing for 3-4 months.  It had apparently bounced under the stove and broiled repeatedly.  For no good reason, a dust bunny emerged one day with the ring caught in it.  I swear it was a little cat paw that pulled that bunny out of hiding - regular vaccuming didn't come close to the necessary suction to pull it out, and I hadn't thought to go horizontal with an extended hose.

I just hope Miz M isn't truly precognitive.  After surviving a parking lot, I have to maintain hope that it will come out from hiding - hopefully sooner than later.

All rugs and underlay have been picked up and shaken. Some dust came out, but no earrings. Fridge, washing machine, dishwasher have all been pulled out and checked, and DW and I looked like the proverbial people who have lost something, with a big torch peering under the built-in kitchen furniture. Bath tubs are of the built-in (rather than freestanding) variety, and all the water traps are empty. I think the only solution is that of sending the remaining earring in, and wait for the missing earring to jump miraculously onto DW's ear.

Unless someone knows the phone number of that boy?

I'm sorry you haven't found it yet, but I have a feeling you will.  Give the search a rest for a few days and see if it turns up.   Whistle

oh, dear.  I'm sorry it remains elusive.  I still have hope it will turn up one day.  Poor Mrs. OMC.  I'm certain she must be distressed.

If you have luck at all like mine, the lost mate will turn at exactly the moment the one you have now has completed its transformation into a pendant.  It would be a beautiful pendant though, and then you could make a matching one for your daughter....

Sorry to hear about the missing earring OMC.
I`ll lend you my cat. She seems to find the tiniest of things which I`ve missed with the naked eye and usually drops them on my head in the middle of the night.
Paperclips, buttons, drawing pins, bits of silver paper etc etc.
I`m sure finding an earring will be a doddle for her. Her fee is £100 per hour  laugh
Seriously, I REALLY hope the missing earring turns up.
My sister lost the diamond out of her engagment ring, searched high and low, in the end claimed on her insurance. About 2 years later she was having a new bathroom fitted and one of the workmen found it lodged on top of the skirting board at the back of the sink pedestal so never give up hope !

I just cannot begin to imagine what you'd write on the customs declaration form for sending the cat!

"Feline carbon location system" maybe? Grin

Perhaps we should send you a gun-dog too. Then you could have a CAT scan and a Lab report...

Mr. OMC,

Thought of a few more places to look.

Since you have tile and wooden floors, do the furniture legs have scuff protectors on the bottom, maybe adhesive felt?  There may be enough space for an earring to adhere to the protector via the adhesive or to felt via the post of the earring.  The earring would be riding along when the chair was moved.

When you checked under the cushions, did you check the cushions?  The post may have penetrated the fabric and the earring is attached to a cushion or throw pillow.

The post may be hooked on a nubby surfaced fabric, embroidery or crewel work, or a fluffy dense fabric or foam surface.

Do you have lace curtains, drapes, or table cloth?  The earring may be hanging on via the post or a prong of the IFY diamond.

I have trouble seeing the dark area at the front inside corners where the wood of my chest of drawers, dresser, and secretary meet the floor.  I have to run my finger tips under the furniture and against the corner edges to check those spots.  (I'm referring to the box like , 3 to 5 inches in height, that a piece of furniture looks like it was set upon by manufacturing design.)

Those are beautiful earrings, and I hope you find the missing one very soon.

Oh, one more thing.  The Ex's Aunt Louise, instead of praying to St. Anthony, would say, "Tony, Tony, look around. Something's lost and can't be found."  I have said this and it worked by reminding of a place I had forgotten that I had laid whatever down.

Good Luck in finding that "turbo charged" earring--no wonder they keep taking off.    Huh?

I am assuming this poor earring remains lost as we have not heard differently.  Have you and Mrs. OMC decided what to do with the one you still have?

I just saw this article on AOL and thought it would be something for CDIers to store away just in case.  I lost a diamond earring in a hotel drain once (klutzy me decided too late to take them off in the shower so as not to get conditioner in them) and luckily the wonderful janitor working there worked his bum off with a vacuum and got it back for me, but at home I would have been totally forlorn...
