HI everyone!
A common desire when people are looking for a yellow diamond, is to get a "Fancy Intense Yellow"
But the price tag puts them out of reach for many buyers.
The answer, in some cases? A stone with a modifying color, if that color is brown.
Now, we LOVE brown diamonds. Sometimes, it seems to me that the pricing of the colors is not always based on beauty.
Brown, as a color in diamonds, is one of the least costly.
So it we have a stone that's a combination of brown and yellow, the brown will lower the price significantly, while at the same time, increasing the depth of color.
Although the stigma attached to brown does put some people off, for many buyers, the brown creates a win-win situation.
Here's a very pretty example:

How do you feel about it? Would you rather get a pure yellow, or add some brown to increase intensity?

Wow!  That is a real beauty!

I owned a DBL fancy deep brownish yellow cushion, which I purchased particularly for this more bang for your buck reason, and I must say I loved it and it was a beauty.  But, I did find myself wanting a truer yellow and ended up replacing it with a truer though lighter yellow (a Y-Z).

Both are stunning stones and I wouldn't consider one color better or worse.  I would be thrilled to put this stunner into a piece of jewelry if I could!  And I will also add that when I wore the FDBY on a regular basis, people who asked me about it only ever asked if it was a "canary".  No one ever picked up on the brown.

You've spoiled us with so many pictures of each stone, David.  I think this is a gorgeous stone.  IMHO, I'd have no hesitation at all in using this baby as center stone  in a classic DBL 3 stone, a halo, or even as a solitaire in say that new delicate setting you have that 1ct FVY set.

She's got a beautiful make, is a very nice size, is as clean as most of us can dream of in a colored diamond, seems to have both sparkle and glitter, and the color is just slightly darker than screaming yellow, maybe more a very rich amber.  Absolutely delectable.   gimi gimi

Hmmm. Tough question, because that's a beautiful stone, but I'm a fan of the lighter, more lemony yellows. if I was going for an intense yellow though, I don't think the brown in that stone would put me off for a moment. I suppose it might look different when set. Could you set it to maximise the yellow and reduce the visual impact of the brown? I'd like to see it in different lighting to get a better feel for its colour characteristics, but on first sight, I'd say it's very attractive.

Oh, and since I'm highly suggestible,  I think I can only see the brown because it's been pointed out, to be honest!

I take it on a stone by stone basis. Some yellows modified with brown I love, some not at all. Some pure yellows get a thumbs up, some do not. Sorry, I just can't generalize when it comes to sparklies.

This particular stone is lovely.  I especially love diamonds with a high crown, so this fits the bill.  Also, a beautiful cut and color.  I can't say that I would buy this stone if I wanted an intense yellow, but I love it on its own merits.

I actually prefer yellows modified by brown, they look more like honey than lemon and i like it better with my skin-tone.

As the current guardian of Chopper, I'd have to agree.  I love the addition of the brownish touch to the yellow.

Hi David:  I lurk often but post seldom.  Chopper is doing well, Diamondnewbie borrowed him (somehow I think it was felt by all that chopper was a boy (GIAgirl)), for a week or so when I was away and wearing Bonnie.  Both she and I are just amazed at the colours that come out, always different in different lights. Just shows how you can pick 'em!
