Hi everyone!
To custom make a ring, there are many styles that require us to "carve a wax" model.
We've done this more times than I could easily remember.
The wax model is then used to form a mold into which molten gold or platinum is poured, or injected.

The one is for a man- and this one is dramatic.

We are going for a Euro-Shank look- but we wanted something comfortable and unique.
The center diamond is an oval

Here's the wax as we first carved it.

IN the photo above you can see wehre we "penciled" in the place the oval would go.

Here's the same wax, after an intensive hand carving session.
As you can see, the place where the oval will go is now ready.

It's also nice the way our guy was able to thin it out in all the right places.

Thanks for sharing this, David.  We don't see too many Euro Shanks here.  What metal will this be cast in?  What diamond is being set it in?  I hope we'll get to see the final ring too!

It's so cool to see the early stages of a project, D.  I still regret them not picking up the TV special with you.  Of course, since you don't blow anything up or get really filthy or live in the great outdoors, they must have considered that they'd lose all the kids and 90% of the guys in the market.  Shame, that!

Bloo- we have a lot of blow ups  here ( remember, I'm married...heheh)

Mikla- the ring will be made in platinum, with a yellow gold bezel for the Fancy Yellow oval that will be in the center.
YES- we'll post photos for sure!

I can relate, D, I CAN relate!  Grin

I've always wondered why it takes some guys so long to understand 'If Momma ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy'.

But then, I was the one who had to explain to my DH that 3 cute, well-dressed, young women together in Vegas are girls from Nebraska out for fun; but a single cute, well-dressed, young woman by herself in Vegas is a working girl.   snake

Progress report.
Here's the platinum piece after we'd worked it extensively...although it's still rather raw,

I like the way the radiant looks in the ring.  Do you know what size the stone is, D?

Yes Annie!

That's a 1.17ct Fancy Yellow Internally Flawless, is what that is!

Absolutely drop dead gorgeous stone too.

Someone has good taste!  It's going to look great when it's finished.  Are they going to do a polished finish?

I like the second choice of diamond.  The shape seems to "fit" better within the top part of the band.  Lovely stone too!

good morning all:

The ring is mine, and the stone is  beyond great.

I wanted a ring that would  both show off the stone, and the setting.

I have quite a DBL collection.

David has by far the best selection both in terms of quality and value.

David will post pics of the finished ring for all to see!

Oh my! What a gorgeous diamond, that one is really special.

I love the setting so far too. Simple yet significant.

Rio, you have impeccable taste, I can't wait to see the finished piece- it's going to be absolutely stunning.

Thanks for letting us watch the process, it's been very interesting.
