Hi everyone,

I am planning to have a diamond initial pendant made for my daughter.  We've looked at many styles on the web and are a little overcome by the various styles available.  Ultimately, David will be custom-making the pendant based on whatever font we decide on, but I'd love to see pictures of diamond initial pendants or any ideas that any of the forum members might have.

The initial will be a "K" and my daughter fancies script letters.  It will be permanently attached to an 18" platinum chain at both the top left and right of the initial.  Also, how large should the initial be to remain tasteful and feminine, while still being able to see the diamonds set into it?  I would like this to be a necklace that my daughter can wear for a lifetime, so I'm looking for a high quality piece.  Here are some of the ideas that we've come up with (they'll all have diamond melee inside the frame):

One problem is how to deal with the thinner sections so that the initial doesn't bend.  My daughter likes the last picture best because of the swirly details on the left side.  I'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas you might have.  Thanks for reading!

What a lovely gift!

May I ask, what age is your daughter? I would have preferred a more ornate letter when I was younger, but now I would pick the simplest one. I think, once the diamonds are added, the more ornate letters may be a little hard to 'read' on first glance, especially as there will be a little extra metal where the chain joins on.

I don't have any pics to share, but I wish I did! I think DJ has a really lovely diamond initial pendant, if I recall correctly. There may be some pics here. I'll have a look later if you don't get any other photos in the meantime.

Good point, Jen.  She's 16, going on 25!  Grin

She's had a gold script name necklace for over a year now and has taken good care of it, or I'd never be making a platinum one for her now.  She's a pretty responsible kid.

Frankly, less fancy would suit me fine too, as I think you can overcome some of the issues associated with the thinner parts and trying to set diamonds in script.  I asked David to get a "K" from one of his suppliers ready-made so we can compare that with the fancy fonts she likes.  Apparently he can get one next week to show us.

I did a quick search for script Initials and found a few.

Don't ask about the title of the album. 1087

colleen lopez .12ct diamond sterling silver initial pendant - this was on HSN and there is a You-tube vid.  They were some of the most legible, but I couldn't pull the single letter.

Thanks, ah2bqat and David!  That was very thoughtful.  I've seen K9 before and I liked it because it was unusual and looked like the stones could be set easily in it, but DD didn't care for it.  Darn it!  Who told her she could have her own opinion?   Grin

What a beautiful gift for your daughter, Mikla!  Of the four you posted, the first is my favorite, but number four probably comes in second.

The only CDI one I can think of off the top of my head belongs to the wonderful diamondjunkie.  It's posted in the gallery, but here it is, just for kicks.   Wink

The style is simpler than the one your daughter likes, but once it's set with diamonds, I think the simplicity can be sort of pleasing.

David, didn't you make one for Marc's wife? And you made another one for a customer, too.

Thanks, everyone!  David is having a wax made for the "K" in this design, with diamonds throughout instead of the metal beads in the thinner parts.  I'll post the wax (or maybe David will) when it's completed.  Yay!

Thanks, T.  It's nice to get so much interest in what is really a small project, but still it's very important to my daughter.

Nice choice! It's ornate enough to be really pretty and feminine, but not so decorated that it's hard to make out the letter. Lovely!

Can't wait to see this one finished. I'd love one of these letters.
