Man, do I have to do everything around here?

« on: April 06, 2010, 10:11:39 AM »

I was kinda thinking this would be a cool project, partly because I have never seen one made up before.

You'll have to use your imagination here, so bare with me.

Get a Golden South Sea dropped shaped pearl approx 17mm and combine it with RB yellow diamond R3279 in yellow gold milgrained bezel.
Can you source out a Golden South Sea Pearl David?
I've seen golden south sea pearls with a white diamond but never with a yellow diamond.

I think that would look fabulous DJM.
I`ve seen a golden south sea pendant with a cognac diamond but the pearl was a round one and had matching earrings. I`ll see if I can find the pic of it.
I much prefer the dropper shaped pearl and the yellow diamond would look stunning !

Oh, that would be nice.
I don't have anything like that...

I have a strand of saltwater pearls and they are absolutely beautiful - in the box. When I put them on, they fail to flatter for some reason. This would be a really nice way to wear pearls. Picture the necklace with a pair of matching earrings.

Thanks Lynne....that would be nice to see if you can find that picture.

Jen...good idea re: matching earrings.

Okay...what about option #2?

Use OMC's pearl pendant as inspiration. (Hope you don't mind OMC) Picture this in golden south sea pearl with R3042  (Is this still available D?)

Cool idea djm!
I'm sure we could source a South Sea Pearl if we had an order for one....

I'll have to check on the yellow baguette.....it's not here, but the cutter might still have it.

DJM: I don't mind at all. For those that want proportions: the white pearl is 17.2 x 17.9 mm.

If one wanted contrast, one could also build a small orange or white into the equation...

I like the contrast idea. I was thinking the same although it cold be orange like or white or brownish. I love the design and the warm pearl is lovely. Great idea djm.

Great idea, DJM.

I have both a yellow round diamond and a golden south sea pearl (although not as gloriously golden as the pearl in the pic here). The only caveat that I see with the plan is that the "gold" hue of the diamond and the pearl must flatter one another. Sadly, when I look at my "yellow" diamond and "creamy golden" pearl together, it is definitely NOT a harmonious pair in terms of color. Also, when I fiddled around, I found that I preferred a pear-shaped diamond with the pearl over the round shaped diamond. However, that's just me...

Still, I like the idea. It would be especially suited for a Mother's Day gift.  Evil

I know T...I was thinking the exact same thing in terms of color. The thing with golden south sea pearls is that they range in color from champagne golden yellow to buttery yellow. I think if I did this I'd buy the pearl first then have David match up the pearl with a light yellow.

PS: I like your idea of a pear shaped too.

At the jewelry show here in town today I actually say a golden pearl hanging from what looked to be 5 or 6 very small yellow sapphires.  It was really pretty!

For starters, here's the pearl we are working with. It is a "lighter" yellow than the typical "golden" yellow commonly seen with South Sea pearls.

This color was chosen for 2 reasons:
 1. Lighter yellow tones look nicer on DW than intense yellows or golden yellows (the biggest reason).
 2. It will be easier to match with a FLY diamond aand look better, I think. (see Trinkette's post #9 )

STATS:
Size:1.44 gram = 7.2 ct.
Dimensions: 10.88 x 9.85 x 9.83 mm
Shape: Baroque-drop
Nacre: Very thick
Color: Gold body
Overtone color: A spectacular highly lustrous glow
Surface: Clean baroque
Luster: Excellent
Quality: AA+ to AAA

Lovely pearl.  I like the lighter yellow shade you've selected.  This is looking like a marvelous project!

That is one of the prettiest shades of a pearl I've ever seen djm. It has a lot of substance, too. I really love it. What a great idea for a pendant.

Oh awesome!  I cannot wait to see pics!

I hope to have a pearl project myself in the future after I go on a trip in May to buy it/them.  So I am very interested to see this finished project!
