It`s never too early to plan your wishlist. Mine currently runs into 2020 ! Wink
I have 3 rings with yellow stones. I have a yellow radiant in a yellow gold halo, twin intense yellow pears in a bypass ring and a white heart shaped diamond with yellow heart sidestones. I love them all but I think my favourite has got to be the radiant which has so much glitter. I`ve recently been tempted to have my twin intense pears re-set either side of maybe a white RB.
I`m still hooked on white diamonds though, there`s just something about the whites which appeals to me more than any others. All a matter of taste though.
I`m sure whatever you choose will look scrumptious and you can`t beat David`s coloured diamonds.
I`m in the UK and over here jewellers look at you kind of strangely when you ask if they have coloured diamonds. They just arent popular and our largest jewellers in town have just one coloured diamond ring in stock which is a tiny yellow radiant. I`ve had people ask me what stones they are and they`ve presumed they`re yellow sapphires or somesuch.
I guess the Brits need educating in coloured diamonds !

Hi Awestruck!

Nice to see you! Thank you for sharing that you too plan a projects so far out! ha ha!

I'm down to choosing between the the 1.14 oval and the 1.16 yellow radiant.  Here is what I've come up with for rings (actually borrowed from others creations on this forum, so hope y'all don't mind).

For the oval, a thin pink gold halo  with pinkish brown diamonds and double claw prongs in white gold.  On each side of the oval, one chocolate half moon diamond set in pink gold with pink gold prongs. The shank will be white gold with 2 or 3 small micropave set white diamonds on each side of the shank.  My finger is a size 4 and the 1.14 will be a lot of coverage on it's own.  but the way I see it in my mind (ha ha), it would be delicate, but gorgeous.

For the 1.16 radiant, a thin white gold halo with yellow melee and double claw prongs in yellow gold.  On each side of the radiant, one chocolate trill diamond set in pink gold with pink gold prongs.  The shank will be yellow gold with 2 or 3 small micropave set white diamonds on each side of the shank.

So, what do y'all think?

From these 2 choice. I love #1 the 1.14 oval in pink halo
But I'm probably be the most bias person  Evil since I'm crazy for white diamond with pink melee right now and I also choose for the size.

However for the stone itself I like FLY radiant more. You should try T jewelry box Technique like Jen said. You will know what do you want to add in your collection. What will make you more happy.   Probably yellow diamond?

You are soooo right about the FLY stone by itself, but the oval is TDF.   They're both gorgeous stones. I've made my choice, but want to discuss details with David first of what I want to do with the stone before I share here just in case I change my mind (which I'm notorius for).   devildance

Namtan,  I have to tell you that I was looking at the pear you're looking at also until I read your post.  ha ha.  I always check the forum first to make sure no one else has plans for the same diamond I'm looking at just because I wouldn't want that to happen to me.   angel

Thank you to everyone who shared what they like about their rings and for sharing pics (GL).  I did go to the maul and tried on several rings with square and oval shapes, but what really did it was Trinkette's Jewelry Box Technique.

I will share that involves the center stone, a halo, and side stones.

Hi Kati,
Sorry to be late to the party! As always, I've had a great amount of trouble with my internet connection lately (so bad that DH went off to try to purchase another wireless-phone-based system... that hasn't worked yet either) and I've only been able to eek out a couple of posts lately.  Undecided

Anyway, you sound content with your choice; I am eager to here what your decision may be. Both your designs sound quite elegant.

One thought: you have very petite hands, and both rings you've described are quite intricate with halos; many stone colors, shapes and sizes; multiple metal colors; double-clawed prongs; and diamonds in the shanks.  Be sure you and David are clear about each detail you ultimately choose, as well as the overall proportion and sizing of your ring, so that the many elements may work in harmony to energize the overall piece. With such a complicated design, it seems possible to overwhelm the demure stature of your hands as well as the beauty and importance of the center stone. Remember, it is harder to edit than to add. Make each element count.

Still without knowing your decision –
Go back as read your first post on this thread. Have you satisfied your basic lust for something yellow and pink? Or, have you added another desire? Or, have you truly changed your mind? Know where this process has taken you, or you may get caught-up craving ANOTHER piece as soon as this project is finished! (Welcome to MY world...hehe).  Roll Eyes

I'm glad that imagining your jewelry box helped you to reach a decision. Can you see your design there now? How does it look next to everything else? Hopefully this time next year when you open your REAL jewelry box, you will be elated to see your gorgeous new ring! Can't wait to learn more about your plans...  Kiss

Trink, I too have had insane connectivity problems. Another tech comes tomorrow.

I love my yellow. I bought yellow diamond earrings after my yellow diamond ring. I'm hooked on yellow. I'd give my eye teeth for that intense yellow daisy ring.

You've picked some great cushion stones. But I have to tell you. It's unlikely you'll find unusual shapes at the maul. They are typically round or princess. Some emerald cuts. But I have never seen a cushion diamond at a store. If they do, I doubt they have many.

Either option will be gorgeous!  I am sort of tempted to tell you to go for the oval, because I have wanted it for so long and you will save me the money! Evil

I think it all comes down to what would look best on you, and I think a trip to some maul jewelers to see different shapes on you would really help.  I almost bought that oval for the hybrid, but when I went into the maul jewelers and tried on oval halos, they didn't lok great on my finger, but ECs in halos did.  One or the other may jump out at you.

Anyway, you will be soooooo happy with either!  Fabulous options!

Trinkette,

Thank you for everything you said in your last post.  ha ha...There's no way that a1.16 or 1.14 diamond halo w/side diamonds would look good on my small finger.  It's short and medium (not slender, but not chunky either).  I love your honesty! And, you said it so eloquently!

GL..thank you too for all your pics and love of yellows.

I chickened out on the yellow, but not so much because of the color but more because ovals look better on my hands.  I talked to David tonight and he emailed me some pics of another oval.  Hope he doesn't mind if I post it here. Here are the two ovals:

I really like the first one because of the faceting...David seemed to really like this one as well. My plans are definitely pink halo (who'd have guessed?) ha ha with bezel and milgrain umm...no side stones.oh and set east to west.  As for the yellows, I'm "dipping in" a little at a time...probably a pair of yellow diamond earrings to see how I like them.  Will you all please share what you think?

The first oval ROCKS!  What a gorgeous and perfect shape!  I couldn't imagine a better one.  That's gonna be AWESOME in a halo.  Go for it, girl!

I like this idea much much better than the first idea with side stone. not too busy. For the oval, I like the first one as well.

oh and set east to west.
The oval set east-west will look more unique but will not help elongate your finger as much.

I'm so excited for you.  bliss we will both get  4 with white and pink diamonds.  gogirl5

Oh wow. A nice organic perfect shaped oval. That is one stunning shape. A drooler for sure. You're making me want an oval something fierce.

Yellow diamond earrings? I wear them and although I wear them with any color, I purposely buy yellow now so I can wear them more. I LOVE mine. Better than my white studs. I ADORE them. They are my favorite earrings. And everyone here will tell you. David posted them and I went to jelly. It was love at first site and I never looked back.

Kati,
I LOVE the EW haloed oval ring you've described. A classic with a little twist that should flatter your hand beautifully. However, I do hope that I didn't dissuade you from your dream ring with side stones. if the halo with sides is something you dream about, surely, you should pursue your vision. I spoke up because I know that when I'm trying to design something, sometimes there is a little voice in my head that I ignore until someone else mentions the same thing. Somehow, when another person expresses my own thoughts it helps me to legitimize my ideas and to put them in perspective – whether or not I ultimately agree with the expressed thought or not. So, if you do decide on the halo with sides (like, you will MISS seeing it in your jewelry box), David can make it work. I just figured better to play devil's advocate now, rather than later...   Tempted

That being said... the EW pink oval that Mikla posted (second from the top) has always been one of my favorites, and I've always been sorry that it "got away." Your "flipped" design, colorwise, should be stunning. I WILL be envious.

For what it is worth, I have what I consider to be shorter, medium fingers (at 6.5 - 6.75 way bigger than yours, Kati – your hands ARE petite!) and I LOVE an EW style on my hand – especially ovals.  I've found, surprisingly, that the EW look can suit my hand and I like the fact that it is a little unusual. So, it sounds like we may share a preference for "full side-to-side coverage" when it comes to finger real estate – the halos with sides you described earlier would give you generous EW presentation.

One last thought, since you've mentioned your DH's input in this process: Even though I generally prefer EW, if I were to design an IMPORTANT oval ring, I very well could go NS with the design. This is mainly because my DH is a total classicist and prefers NS to EW. Generally, if DH is more partial to something, and I like it anyway, I generally go with his preference over mine. He has excellent taste, so it always works out. However, more importantly, it makes me happy that HE is happy and proud of the piece (and, I still get the marvelous goods...  angel )

You can't go wrong with any of David's ovals; set EW or NS, you're in good hands, as they say!  Wink

Sorry, one more thing about the yellows...

I have several yellow diamond pieces, lower-alphabet to fancy. For me, smaller pieces, like earrings, work best when surrounded or flanked by high colorless diamonds for contrast so that the yellow "reads" yellow, not "something tinted" against my skin under my hair (I doubt the high whites would be necessary with fancy intense or fancy vivid earrrings, however, since I'm not SURE, I'll have to get a pair to find out  Evil ). This need/desire for color contrast may just be my personal preference or vision. My point is, however, that if one is going to dip one's toe in the water and try yellow diamonds in a "conservative" manner, it is good to keep in mind the high-white factor, because conservative spending may mean smaller yellow diamond weights and no extra high whites. If that is the case, just remember, the whites can always be added later if desired, or the smaller yellows can be traded up for heftier yellows down the road... hehe.

That being said, both my DH and I have grown to love the yellow diamonds (and yellow is not a color that I wear or have in my house). In fact, David has one ring that my DH saw on my hand last year, and DH still talks about it. Moreover, DH has said that he wants me to have that yellow ring in the worst way (can you believe it?)... *SIGH* Sadly for me, this is a heartbreaker because we just can't make it happen these days  Bawling

This is a long-winded way of saying that I totally understand WM's adoration for her yellow diamond earrings. Hopefully, Kati, someday, when your gorgeous oval and pink ring is well-worn and isn't "new" anymore, you'll be smitten by your "perfect" yellows to add to the jewelry box...  devildance

I don't have any yellow diamond earrings (want some though!), but I do have a yellow heart in a pendant that I adore, which got me thinking about skin tone.  I think that plays a HUGE factor in which designs and stones to pick.  I loooooove rose gold, but I have come to realize that it really is not all that flattering on me, while yellow gold really is even though I didn't want to wear it for a long time because of the trend away from it.  You have to go with what you love, and if D sent me a big pink cushion in rose gold I would gladly wear it regularly (hint hint!), but it is just something else to consider.

Awww...thanks everyone.  It truly is a beautiful oval!

I have to share though, that I'm probably driving D crazy with me changing my mind.  I've done it to him 3x now. Last night, my DH felt really bad because he felt like it was his fault for dissuading me from the yellow radiant.  So, of course, I jumped up and emailed D for the radiant after I told him I wanted the first oval.  However, today, I kept looking at that oval, and I emailed D again tonight and asked for the first oval.  I hope you all will share stories if you've done this because I'm starting to feel kind of bad for doing this to D. Sorry...David.  You know though he's wonderfully patient in trying to get just the right diamond and setting.  I'm going to wear this ring as an e-ring (That sounds funny to call it an e-ring since I've married for 26 years) so I guess I want to get the best one that I can.   I'm not sure that at some point, I would have wished I'd gotten this DDG oval. I think I would regret not getting it.  Which is why I emailed D again tonight.

That's also why I've been posting here...you all are wonderful about sharing your experiences with different stones/jewelry, your likes and dislikes, and that type of thing.

GL - that 1.14 has your name on it! ha ha

Trinkette, thank you for playing Devil's advocate. It's good to have someone to do that!

Mikla, love the pictures of the rings you posted.  Okay..the east-west pink oval is one of my all-time favorites on D's site.

GL- you make a really good point...skin tone is something to really consider.  White diamonds look better against my skin tone then a yellow one would.

Namtan, I believe you will have your ring before I have mine.  I can't wait to see it here. 4

GL, I was seeing your yellow heart when I wrote my post above. And, I was thinking how yellow definitely WORKS for you beautifully – sans white. Probably, I should have tempered my comments a bit more to reflect this. Funny... you say that yellow gold works better for you than rose gold, and I see that rose gold works better for me than yellow gold, LOL. So, you are right, for sure.  Skin tone is a significant factor when it comes to making a piece "sing."

I know what you mean about avoiding yellow gold because it has not been as fashionable as the white metals. Poor yellow gold. It has really had a bad rap lately. Totally unfair. I've come to realize that I prefer the warmer tones (rose and yellow) on my skin over the white metals. Only complication here is that I enjoy certain characteristics of platinum over gold, so I often go with the less visually flattering platinum to take advantage of platinum's other qualities. We should give the warm golds another shake...

Kati... No one, I mean NO ONE can be more indecisive than I am!!! David can tell you. I've driven him crazy. Quite literally, I have been in his office, wearing TWO different rings, for more than an hour – one on... one off... the other on, the other off off... one on... one off... On and on it goes. And this is after asking about each for months. (I never could decide, so, I left without either ring, BTW  violent1 ). As I said, I have spent MONTHS pining over one piece or another, trying to decide whether to purchase or not to purchase. And, heaven forbid, should I buy a LOOSE STONE. OMG! Then, I have to spend another few months trying to decide how to set the stone. There are several CDIers who have pulled me through painstaking decision making. David has the patience of a saint.

If you are indecisive, all I can tell you is to look at your virtual jewelry box again. See each stone in the box (set into the ring of your dreams) Then, go with your gut. You DO know your preference, you just don't know that you know... get it?

Try this: If someone asked you, right now, to describe the "ring of your dreams" – regardless of the stones David has shown you so far – what would your answer be?

I totally agree with Trinkette's suggestion that you imagine your perfect ring not taking into account anything that David has in stock.  I've driven myself absolutely nuts trying to make things work with what he has right now, forgetting that he can get anything you want.  This will be an especially important ring to you, as your e-ring, and you need to take as much time as you need to make sure that you get exactly what you want.  If you're still wavering, I don't think you're ready to make a decision.  Step back, surf the web for designs you particularly like, and go to the nicest jewelry stores you can to try on different styles.  It WILL come to you but you can't rush it.  This is one of those decisions that you have the luxury of taking time to make.  Enjoy the journey, the search for the perfect setting and the perfect stone, and the result will be everything you wanted in this ring.

Best, Mikla

Kati, I totally sympathise. I find it easy enough to find two or three options I love (or would tweak slightly) but I find it nigh on impossible to settle on The One.

Maybe take a break for a few days? Just let it sneak up on you in a virtual jewellery box sort of way - see what's popping into your head most often?

If it's your e-ring, it has to be just exactly what you want. What that is might take a little time to pin down though.

Hi everyone,

All of you have given me some great advice, and I appreciate all that you've shared with me.

Trinkette, you're exactly right about my DH's input.  If he's happy, then it'll make me happy and the same is true for him, and I'll still have the ring that I want.  My DH is very much a classicist about e-rings. He has excellent taste as well.  He likes to show off anything he's bought for me more than I do...or a very close second.  ha ha How wonderful that your DH wants you to have that ring.  May I ask which one it is?

Mikla and Mrs. M., you're both right about imagining my perfect ring without taking into account D may have in stock.

DH and I really talked about this the other night.  About what we both wanted in an e-ring for me.  We did make a final decision, and I'm very excited about it. We both chose the first white oval diamond with options for settings to be discussed. All of which I will post to continue to get everyone's thoughts and ideas because they are truly valuable and priceless!

Well, I'll be away for a few days...we're moving.  I really dislike the work of moving though...ugggghh! I hope I don't miss too much here!

Kati, I feel your pain regarding the moving! We've been working on our local move for months now (well... we kinda pooped out during the summer, to be honest). Luckily, we have the luxury of taking our time somewhat, and now we're about 90 percent done. It is down to all the nitty-gritty stuff, like my desk and office stuff, all the things that I don't want to loose and must go through painstakingly item buy item. I've spent the last two days over at the other house trying to pack in an organized way. No matter how careful and thoughtful I am, I can't shake the feeling that once it is all boxed up, I will just never, ever, see some of this stuff again...

I'm glad you and your DH have found your perfect diamond. You two are well on your way to creating your one-and-only, dream engagement ring. Enjoy the process. I am excited for you both!
